1. What are the indications for using TOPRAZOLE 20MG?

A1: It is used to treat stomach and duodenal ulcers, to manage symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or chronic heartburn, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and to treat stomach ulcers caused by H. Pylori bacteria in combination with other antibiotics.

2. When should the tablet be taken for best effectiveness?

A2: The tablet should be taken once daily, preferably in the early morning and before a meal (30 minutes to one hour before breakfast); to ensure the medication starts working before the stomach begins producing acid.

3. What is the usual duration for using this medication?

A3: The duration depends on the condition; for duodenal ulcers usually 2-4 weeks, and for GERD 4-8 weeks. Long-term use (months or years) is not recommended except under strict medical supervision.

4. What are the most common side effects?

A4: Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation, and gas (flatulence). These symptoms are usually mild and temporary.

5. Are there risks associated with prolonged use of Omeprazole?

A5: Yes. Very long-term use may be linked to an increased risk of bone fractures (osteoporosis), Vitamin B12 deficiency, and in rare cases, an increased risk of intestinal infection (such as C. difficile).
