1. What are the indications for using PANTOLOC 40 MG?
A1: It is used to treat erosive esophagitis resulting from severe Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), treat stomach and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and is used with antibiotics to treat H. Pylori bacteria.
2. When should the tablet be taken for best effectiveness?
A2: The tablet is taken once daily, preferably in the early morning and before a meal (30 minutes to one hour before breakfast); to ensure maximum effect on the acid pumps.
3. Can the tablet be broken or chewed?
A3: No. The Pantoprazole tablet must be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Breaking or chewing the tablet compromises the protective enteric coating and reduces the medication's effectiveness.
4. What are the most common side effects?
A4: Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and gas (flatulence). These symptoms are usually mild and temporary and resolve as the body adjusts to the medication.
5. Are there risks associated with prolonged use of the medication?
A5: Yes. Prolonged use (more than a year) may be linked to an increased risk of bone fractures (osteoporosis), Vitamin B12 deficiency, and in rare cases, an increased risk of intestinal infection (such as C. difficile).
